Stevens is nearing a fresh deal - thisiskent.co.uk

Stevens is nearing a fresh deal - thisiskent.co.uk

DARREN STEVENS is confident of sealing his Kent future soon as talks over a new contract continue.

The 36-year-old all-rounder, Kent's prized asset in the shorter form of the game, is out of contract at the end of this season.

  1. key player: Darren Stevens' runs bolster Kent's t20 side

The loss of Stevens would be a massive hammer blow to Kent's ambitions but the top run-scorer in domestic t20 cricket is hopeful of dotting the i's and crossing the t's on a new deal.

He said: "It's being finalised at the moment. There are a few things that I need to clarify first but once that's done it should be sorted. All being well that'll go fine. We're getting there.

"The club wanted it one way and I wanted it another way and it's just a case of trying to find some mutual ground."

Stevens hasn't been having it all his own way with the ball in the t20 campaign but he has fared better with the bat.

Qualification, however, remains unlikely.

He said; "It's not for the lack of trying and not for a lack of preparation.

"We've been putting a load of practice in that people don't get to see but we've not been executing our skills well enough in the matches.

"Treddy (James Tredwell) has been more consistent than most but we all could have performed better than we have.

"A lot of hard work has been going on but we've been leaving ourselves with massive asks in matches.

"Chasing 200 is tough and everyone needs to come off for that to be successful."

The form of Sam Billings and Sam Northeast has caught Stevens' eye – but he admits he wouldn't have used the pair in the manner the Spitfires did against Sussex.

Rob Key came in at three to leave the two Sams to open up.

Stevens added: "They're two young lads who've been playing nicely up front and it's been a good tournament for them.

"You can't knock them even though they've not gone on and got 90s and won games for us.

"I'd still go with Keysie up front with one of the younger lads, though. They can still get runs at three.

"We've three t20 games left now and we're still in the competition.

"We just need to win all three and see where it leaves us."

It's a well known fact that the stars of The Only Way Is Essex love to party and nothing is better than a big night out on the town which is usually followed by a slow start the next day.

But after a big night out with her boyfriend Tom Kilbey, Lydia Bright was spotted yesterday out and about in Loughton, Essex proving she's a natural beauty.

Going for a more sophisticated look than people are used to seeing the TOWIE girls, Lydia stepped out in frilly black camisole which she teamed with a mustard coloured pencil skirt.

Having spent the previous evening with her head in the clouds, the boutique owner opted to wear a pair of grey pumps by British designer Vivienne Westwood.

Completing her outfit the beautiful blonde armed herself with an over-sized black leather bag and a pair of black sunglasses as she wore her hair back in one.

At the beginning of the year following her breakup from her long term boyfriend and co-star James 'Arg' Argent Lydia went on the hunt for her own place.

The reality TV starlet was pictured back in February with her mother Debbie, who also stars alongside her in the hit ITV show as she checked out a properties in Essex.

However yesterday on Twitter she revealed why she wasn't ready to move out just yet when she uploaded a picture of herself and family members jumping on a trampoline.

Her tweet read: 'This is why I can't move out I would miss the chaos to much. Love my family ♥ Nom, Bob, Roma & @freddiebright1'.

On Tuesday evening TOWIE's Lydia Bright and Tom Kilbey brought a new sophisticated spin to cream as they headed out to the Katy Perry Part Of Me London premiere in matching palettes.

While Lydia wore a stunning feather-trimmed cream Coast dress with nude peeptoe heels, Tom opted for a matching pair of trousers, with a beige shirt and tan boots.

The couple looked sleek and polished as they posed up for photographers at the event in London's Leicester Square.

Following the event, Lydia took to her Twitter page and wrote: 'Loved the @katyperry movie I laughed & I cried amazing lady. Now drinkies with the crew.'

But Tom had some grumbles about his girlfriend's behaviour at the premiere, jokingly writing on his Twitter page: '@LydiaRoseBright been here 10 mins already ate the popcorn and the chocolate #filmaintevenstarted.'

Wow she looks soo much younger without the slap!!

And again DM declares a woman 'make up free' when she clearly is wearing make up. Come on boys try to meet some girls and you're understand. Just because a lady doesn't slap on the stuff with a trowel doesn't mean she's make up free. In fact it shows a rather better hand to be subtle.

As much as I love Lydia I wouldn't say she's a natural beauty, when she's done up she's incredibly striking.

She looks sooooo much younger without the make up, and she has good skin.

Again. Who?????

Lydia is a pretty girl with or without make-up!

Beautiful eyes!

Catherine Scotland "Who even is this girl? no what annoys me...people who work so hard and go to school, college/uni and get a degree and actually make a difference and make a living for themselves, while these idiots show up and dont even have a real job! USE ARE ALL A DISGRACE! really gets to me."................................. 1) Don't read this article if you are not interested! You obviously know who she is otherwise surely you wouldn't have clicked on her! 2)She is making the most of an opportunity and why shouldn't she. If the tabloids want to photograph and pay her money for interviews why should she say no?! 3) you clearly haven't been to school or university. USE means to use something! perhaps you meant to write YOU ARE?!

She's hardly bare-faced! Looks like she is wearing a huge amount of foundation. Pretty nonetheless.

bored, dublin, 05/7/2012 10:36 ----- beauty is obviously subjective - personally I don't think Katie Holmes is very pretty , nd Cheryl Cole - don't get me started!!! Lydia is a lovely girl and, I think, naturally beautiful - she doesn't need all that make up!

Kent coach Jimmy Adams will decide whether to leave out beleagured Matt Coles this week - Kent Online

Matt Colesby Andrew Gidley

Kent coach Jimmy Adams will decide whether to take Matt Coles out of the Friends Life t20 firing line this week.

The 22-year-old England Lions seamer has suffered a torrid time so far with 4-192 in his 16 overs at 12 apiece.

He bowled just one over during the 83-run thrashing at Sussex on Friday night, going for 20 runs as the Sharks got off to a flying start while his previous outing against Middlesex saw the paceman concede 33 runs in just two overs.

Despite the punishment, and whatever decision is taken this week, Adams is sure Coles (pictured) will benefit from the experience.

"Matt has had a decent season so far (scoring his maiden first-class century and taking 30 championship wickets), but he is still a work in progress," said Adams.

"It is all about learning to be consistent at this level, and not many players stamp their authority on all versions of the game at his age."

Three successive defeats have dented Kent Spitfires' hopes of progressing to the knockout stages again this season. In-form Hampshire Royals' rain-affected win over the Surrey Lions at The Oval on Monday has made them hot favourites to join unbeaten Sussex at the top of the South Group.

Spitfires finish their programme with three games in four days beginning with a trip to The Oval on Thursday, 7pm, followed with a home game against Essex Eagles on Friday (7pm), before facing Middlesex Panthers (2.30pm) at Uxbridge on Sunday.

Adams added: "The boys were back in on Tuesday after a few days off, and we will be reflecting on what happened last week.

"It was not want we wanted, conceding more than 400 runs in 40 overs (against Sussex and Middlesex), and totals of that magnitude will always put you under pressure."

Do you think Coles needs a break from t20 action? Have your say below.

Jimmy what are you on? He's bowling like a drain! He has to be dropped! Him and Mahmood have gone for half our runs in the competition so far. In my eyes he's very over-rated and will get found out sooner or later

Danny Kent and Sandro Cortese told to race hard but fair - MCN

By Matthew Birt -

MotoGP

 05 July 2012 09:38

British rider Danny Kent and Red Bull KTM Moto3 team-mate Sandro Cortese have been told to avoid a repeat of the aggressive battle they engaged in during a thrilling Moto3 race in Assen last weekend.

The pair will be back on track this weekend for the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring after a couple of high-speed collisions during last Saturday's Dutch TT.

German Cortese was the chief aggressor in a thrilling Dutch Moto3 encounter and one moment of contact in the closing stages almost caused Kent to crash.

Cortese’s aggressive moves drew criticism from inside the paddock, with reigning MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner believing he had been close to overstepping the limit.

Kent rode a brilliant race though to record his maiden Grand Prix podium after he was handed third by just 0.001s over Luis Salom following a photo finish.

Red Bull KTM team boss Aki Ajo said Kent and Cortese were spoken to prior to the Assen race and again afterwards and he told MCN: “For sure there was a bit too much risk.

"I understand why because they were thinking that perhaps (Maverick) Vinales can pull away and it can make them a little bit nervous.

"But you have to be more careful and we have to talk about it. I am not angry but I think both of them understand they have to work together.

"We talked about it before the race. In some respects we were lucky nothing big happened and we talked with them again after the race. They understand they have to support each other and they have a good feeling together.”

Rory Bremner spearheads comedy at Kent’s t20 match - Kent News

TV funnyman brings showbiz pals to the cricket scene

One of the nation’s favourite comedians Rory Bremner has teamed up with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to front a comedy campaign to bring comedians to t20 cricket.

The impressionist will bring some of his stand-up pals to host matches around the country starting with Kent this Friday night.

This Friday its the Spitfires’ turn to have a visit from the comedy team as comedian Rob Beckett (who actually used to be a steward at the club) visits Kent County Cricket Club.

Beckett is one of the newest and most exciting acts to hit the comedy circuit having appeared alongside Jimmy Carr on 8 out of 10 Cats. The funnyman will interact with the crowd, send messages and the odd joke over the tannoy and inject some humour into proceedings.

Ccurator of the tour Rory Bremner, said: “Cricket and comedy go well together, as anyone who has seen me play will testify!

“Twenty20 cricket has been one of the games great success stories in the last few years and I hope this campaign will continue the great work of bringing cricket to a wider audience. The comedians will bring yet more entertainment to the games and I can’t wait for FLt20 fans to get a taste of the comedy and cricket action.”

The comedy tour spearheads a wider marketing campaign by the ECB entitled ‘Something Completely Different’ which will see the Friends Life t20 competition launched in a fun, fresh and exciting way to bring even more fans to the competition - which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Performer Rob Beckett will be spinning the one liners out as Kent fas the Essex Eagles, he said: “Being a steward was the best job I’ve ever had as I used to get paid to sit in the sun watching cricket.

“Plus I didn’t have much to do in terms of crowd control as pitch invasions aren’t very common at cricket matches. I asked to do this leg of the tour so I could go back to Canterbury as it is always so nice to go back.

“As a steward I just used to get sent out to my post so I don’t know many of the people there, but there might be some familiar faces.”
