Kent checked by Glamorgan - SkySports

Kent checked by Glamorgan - SkySports

Glamorgan hit back on a rain-hit second day of their Division Two clash with Kent to restrict the hosts to 459-9 at Canterbury.

Kent were 310-4 overnight with two unbeaten centurions - Brendan Nash and Darren Stevens - at the crease.

But the visiting bowlers ensured they would not be facing a 600-plus total in the final two days, though Geraint Jones hit a fine 69 not out before the rain arrived at 2.20pm to force an eventual abandonment.

Nash and Stevens fell within the space of 12 deliveries; Huw Waters having the former caught behind for 114, then Stevens (123) chipped a checked drive to extra cover.

James Tredwell (11) nicked to slip off James Allenby, who then moved to slip himself to catch Matt Coles who hit a breezy 26 before falling to Dean Cosker.

Mark Davies also chipped in to the home cause with a bright 24 before James Harris - who took all four wickets to fall on Thursday - whistled one through his defence.

Jones made the most of some rare support from Kent's rabbit at No 11, Charlie Shreck, who hit his first ever first-class six in his 120th innings.

He hung around for half an hour for his seven not out as Jones completed a 74-ball half century.

Day one

Brendan Nash and Darren Stevens both hit centuries to help Kent dominate the opening day of their Division Two clash with Glamorgan at Canterbury.

The duo came together with their side in trouble but shared an unbroken stand that was worth exactly 200 to carry their team to 310-4 by the close.

England Lions bowler James Harris, whose season has been disrupted by injury, took all four wickets to fall on Thursday, but the support from the rest of the Glamorgan attack was poor.

The seamer had Rob Key (14) and Ben Harmison (12) caught behind by wicketkeeper Mark Wallace and was on a hat-trick after dismissing Sam Northeast (52) and former Glamorgan batsman Mike Powell for a first-ball duck.

But from then on West Indies international Nash and experienced all-rounder Stevens built a superb partnership to swing the momentum Kent's way.

Left-hander Nash (110no) was first to get to three figures and he was soon followed by Stevens, who ended the day unbeaten on 120 having hit 21 boundaries.

As series six of TOWIE starts this weekend, here's an instant catch up on where we left off - Daily Mirror

The new series of The Only Way Is Essex kicks off tomorrow night. Which we imagine you know about already, and will have made a special diamante-encrusted advent-style calendar for counting down with.

But just in case you didn't know, we're jumping up and down and reminding you. And at the same time, we're going to remind you of everything that happened in series five. Just in case you blocked it out got a little bit overwhelmed with fake tan fumes, passed out and missed some of the important bits.

Arg

Arg shows up in the first episode of series five, looking like Arg in the last episode of series four. Just a lot, lot smaller. And with much, much shinier teeth. In fact, new Arg is a bit like looking at old Arg through th e wrong end of a telescope, with a little bit of light reflecting off the lens where his mouth is, to give him a cartoon character style glint. We quite like it.

It turns out that new Arg is still the same as old Arg though, because he's still totally hung up on ex-girlfriend Lydia. He's so mad at her for sleeping with somebody else since (since) their break up, that he decides to take it on her using his thumbs. Not in a violent way. Just in a angry text message way.

He also runs a marathon. Which he prepares for by eating a full English breakfast.

By the end of the series, he's developed feelings for the only person on the series who wasn't busy snogging someone else Gemma. Joey thinks that these feelings are "disturbing". But new, slimline, skinny-fit Arg doesn't care and kisses her anyway. Aww.

This is what Arg does to Lydia. GRRRRR. *shakes fist*

Lydia

Mostly Lydia just spends the entire series looking pretty and blonde and happy that she's not dating Arg any more. Except for all the times when Arg is mean. When she looks a bit less happy, but is probably still glad that they're not together. Nobody wants to kiss a mean man.

Thankfully, Cara's brother Tom isn't a mean man. So she kisses him. On the middle of the dance floor. In the finale. [Insert Jaws soundtrack here please]

Tom K

Cara's brother Tom might not be a mean man to Lydia. But he does break things off with Billi M pretty early on in the series.  So you know: Grrrr. Etc.

Jess

Not very much happened to Jess during this series. Mostly it's just a matter of watching her and Ricky taking baby sideways-crab steps across a 1990s high school disco from the boys' side of the room and the girls' side, until they meet in the middle and live happily ever after.

Oh, except for the moment when Ricky gets loads of mysterious flirty text messages from a mysterious flirty person. Who turns out to be Gemma. The crab steps pause for a little bit then.

Lauren Goodger has a heart to heart with Lydia about lots of important things. Unfortunately we're too busy admiring that bedspread to listen to them

Lauren G

Mostly Lauren just goes on a really drastic diet at the beginning of series five, talks about it a lot, gradually appears to stop following it, and then disappears altogether. In a literal way. Not in a OMG-you're-so-thin-we-can't-see-you way. That would be quite sad and serious and we probably wouldn't be joking about it.

She also talks a lot about her fall out with Jess.

She comes back in episode seven for a little bit, seems to make a few awkward situations even more awkward, and then that it is that.

Joey

The most exciting thing that happens in TOWIE during the whole of series five is probably when Joey reveals that he uses "Big Elephants Can’t Always Use Small Exits" so that he can remember how to spell "because". We're crossing our fingers that in series six he admits using "Jealous Orangutans Eat Yams" to remember how to spell his own name.

His on-off-on-off-on-off-we-can't-be-bothered-to-count-anymore-than-that relationship with Sam continues. Until he cheats on her. Technically it's during an "off" moment, so we can't justify arresting/killing him. But he does get a scowl or two from the Faiers family.

We're pretty sure that if you're sat next to somebody, you probably don't need to write letters to each other to communicate, Sam

Sam

In between continuing the whole on-off-on-off-copy-and-paste-the-above-sentence-here thing with Joey, Sam mostly just takes up pole dancing so that she can get fit, and hosts a really awkward dinner party where everybody interrogates everybody else in really socially unacceptable ways.

Then she gets back with Joey, who takes her on a helicopter ride. And then she makes him write her a love letter. In which he presumably spells "because" the right way.

Lauren P

DJ Lauren spends quite a lot of time talking about her new breasts, and then she goes on a date with Tom P. Where she doesn't talk about her new breasts. And just shows them off a bit instead.

Oh, and he gives her a piggy back. Which we didn't know that people did anymore but which we still quite like.

Charlie draws Gemma Collins just like Leonardo di Caprio did Kate Winslet in the film Titanic
Can you guess what (/who) it is yet?

Gemma

Gemma is very busy this series. We imagine that she's so busy, she's had to replace her regular handbag-sized filofax for a full-on A4 ringbinder. THAT'S HOW MUCH SHE SEEMS TO HAVE GOING ON. To be honest, it's actually very impressive.

But as a heads up, you might want to take a deep breath before reading all of this.

Gem starts off the series by dating Charlie, but it's all a bit tempestuous and everybody sort of just sits there waiting for it to go a bit wrong. Which is what happens as soon as it's revealed that she's been secretly texting Ricky, which  is something that Charlie isn't over the moon about. So he ends it. But it's all OK, because Gemma moves swiftly on to a guy called Rami, who seems quite nice, so they have sex. (Because that's what TOWIE people do when they meet people who seem quite nice.)

Unfortunately, that all fizzles out too, so Gemma snogs Arg instead.

Cara Kilbey and Billie Mucklow from TOWIE
This is what Paula Radcliffe runs marathons in too

Billi Mucklow

After she's dumped by Tom K, Billi runs a marathon. Which she prepares for by applying false eyelashes.

That's pretty much it.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Etc

Lucy and Mario

Gets engaged to Mario. Which is nice. And it's on a boat in Marbella. Which is even nicer.

If you want to relive the whole series, without having to actually watch it all, have a look through these pictures:

Meanwhile, see what ex-cast member Kirk has been up to recently... and then see what the cast got up to in between series'.
