Jennie Garth returns to the day job with first acting role after divorce announcement - Daily Mail

By Linda Massarella

|

After being served with divorce papers by long-time husband Peter Facinelli earlier this year, Jennie Garth has run back into acting with both feet.

Unfortunately, those feet looked a little sore from the black pumps Garth's character wears in her new movie, The Eleventh Hour.

As soon as the 40-year-old got a break from shooting in Vancouver Monday, she tore the shoes off - and put on a pair of comfy flip flops.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress is playing the title role of Hailey Dean, a district attorney's who's fiance is suddenly murdered.

The plot revolves around Dean trying to solve the case.

Hailey Dean is largely dressed in suits and pumps. For yesterday's scene, Garth wore a simple black skirt and white sheer blouse. The outfit looked comfortable except for the tight black low-heeled leather pumps.

The Eleventh Hour was written by lawyer and TV commentator Nancy Grace as a novel in 2009 and promptly sold to the Lifetime Network as a movie.

Lifetime has retained Grace as the movie's producer and it was reported she gave the thumbs for Garth to play the main charaacter.

As popular blonde girl Kelly Taylor in Beverly Hills, 90210, Garth was one of the hottest TV actresses in the 1990s. Reprising her iconic role, Garth often made guest appearances as Kelly Taylor in the show's spin-off, Melrose Place. She also appears as Kelly in the current 90210.

It was while filming the TV movie, An Unfinished Affair, in 1996 that Garth hooked up with Facinelli, who would go on to star in the Twilight movies and as the quirky doctor in Nurse Jackie.

They married in 2001, once Beverly Hills, 90210 was off the air and had three children.

Facinelli, 38,surprised fans by serving the gorgeous blonde with divorce papers.

Russell Brand Talks Katy Perry: Divorce "Did Work Out in a Way" - Entertainment Online

Russell Brand is maintaining a zen attitude about his pending divorce from Katy Perry.

In an interview with the Lorraine show on the UK's ITV1 while doing the publicity rounds for Rock of Ages, the British funnyman offered up a rather sanguine view as to why their 14-month union didn't succeed.

"Well, it did work out in a way because you are married for some time, and that's really good, and then you're not married, and that's really good," he said.

MORE: Russell Brand Files for Divorce From Katy Perry

The 37-year-old Brand and the 27-year-old Perry swapped vows in October 2010 in a lavish ceremony in India only to see their marriage unravel.

While divorce is never easy, the comedian has gracefully come to terms with the split.

"You just have to have acceptance of things. She is a person that I love, but now this is a new time," he added.  "I suppose a divorce is difficult, isn't it, because of the admin! There's a lot of admin."

The Get Him to the Greek star, who last month on The Ellen DeGeneres Show confessed he still loves Katy "as a human being," then segued into a discussion of his Rock of Ages costar Alec Baldwin, whom he called "lovely."

"He's like sort of a big powerful, hairy, sexy uncle. Which in the wrong circumstances could be a terrible thing," joked Brand. "But in the circumstances that I found myself in, it was really lovely. And he's really friendly, and he's really clever, and really sweet and gave me wonderful advice."

Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Sussex chainsaw robbers who threatened to cut victims' fingers off are jailed - thisissurreytoday.co.uk

ROBBERS who threatened to cut victims' fingers off have been jailed for a string of offences across Mole Valley and the South East.

Dean Shade, 32, of Turpington Lane, Bromley, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 10 years and James Russell, 24, of Leybourne Close, Crawley, was sentenced to 11 years.

  1. CCTV footage from one of the raids. In every attack the gang were armed with weapons including knives, baseball bats, chainsaws and angle grinders

  2. James Russell was sentenced to 11 years in prison

  3. Dean Shade was sentenced to life in prison

  4. CCTV footage of the armed gang robbing Friday Ad in Sayers Common

  5. CCTV footage of the armed gang robbing Unity Media in Sevenoaks

Shade was the mastermind of an armed gang which stole computer equipment worth £415,840, including 169 Apple Macs.

The pair targeted businesses across the South East during 2010 and 2011, including Robert Dyas and Puma UK in Leatherhead, and a private address in Charlwood.

Detective Sergeant Dennis Phelan, of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: "These offences were not committed with any great degree of sophistication.

"The gang simply relied upon brute force and numbers to threaten and terrorise their victims, many of whom were tied up and marched round their premises before being left alone, restrained in the premises until the alarm was raised.

"Due to the threats and level of violence used, many of the witnesses who gave evidence did so from behind screens. I would like to applaud their courage in doing so. Several remain traumatised to this day by these events."

The two robbers were sentenced on Friday along with Candice Fox, 29, of The Brindle Way, Purley, who was given 12 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months for converting criminal property for the gang.

Russell had pleaded guilty at Brighton Crown Court on April 10, and Shade was convicted on May 11 after a four-week trial.

In every case the robbers were masked and armed with a variety of weapons including knives, baseball bats, chainsaws and angle grinders, threatening to cut victims' fingers off if they did not provide their personal bank cards and PIN numbers.

In April 2011, police found crucial evidence linking Shade and Russell to the robberies.

Russell was arrested in May that year for an unconnected offence, and Shade was caught at the beginning of August.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Allen said: "There are others out there who were involved in these extremely violent offences who have not yet been brought to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Libya revokes Muammar Gaddafi praise law - BBC News

Libya's supreme court has overturned a law that criminalised the glorification of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, his regime, his ideas or his sons.

The court ruled that the law, known as Law 37, was unconstitutional.

Law 37 was originally passed in May by the National Transitional Council's Legal Committee.

Libya's Human Rights Council and civil society groups appealed against the law, which was also condemned by international human rights watchdogs.

Under the original law praising or glorifying Muammar Gaddafi was punishable with a prison sentence.

New judiciary

There were also articles in the law criminalising any attack on the 17 February revolution that toppled the former regime, as well as insulting Islam or offending the state and its institutions.

Although the prison terms were unspecified they could range from three to 15 years under Libya's penal code, according to AFP news agency.

The head of Libya's Human Rights Council told the BBC the ruling would instil more trust in the local judiciary.

The BBC's Rana Jawad, in Tripoli, says that the latest ruling is seen by some as a rare example of what they hope will be Libya's new independent judiciary.

Not long ago, our correspondent says, the former regime and the country's judiciary were seen by Libyans as one and the same.

Sussex set to open t20 home campaign - littlehamptongazette.co.uk

SUSSEX Sharks will be hoping the rain stays away as they kick off their t20 campaign under the lights at Hove against Hampshire Royals tonight (June 14).

The team’s first fixture against Kent at Canterbury on Tuesday (June 12) was washed out without a ball being bowled.

New overseas signings Scott Styris and Rusty Theron are in line to make their t20 debuts for the county, while the visitors could hand Australian Glenn Maxwell his first senior appearance after playing in the 2nd XI.

Neil MacKenzie could also feature for the Royals after he returned to the club last week.

Both teams have strong records in the format, with four finals day appearances between them. The teams occupied the top two positions in the South group last season, but Sussex’s campaign only went one game further as Lancashire Lightning defeated the Sharks at the quarter-final stage.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s group match against Hampshire at Hove, when the visitors ran out easy winners by 112 runs.

Tickets are still on sale and can be bought by calling 0844 264 0206. The game starts at 7.10pm.

Murphy's Law: Woods plays like Tiger of old - Yahoo! Eurosport

Under a cool blue-gray California sky on Thursday at the US Open, Woods did the darndest thing. He played like Tiger Woods used to play at a Major.

Gone were the pained expressions after mis-hits. Gone was the clank of a golf club banging off a tee box in a disgusted follow through. Gone was the muttered profanity.

In was a calm, clinical golfer. In was a player intent on a game plan, on calling the USGA's bluff and opting for fairway-pounding tee shots. In was a player thinking his way around the grueling Olympic Club setup, cagily eyeing each hole as if it were an adversary worthy of his best chess move.

Sixty-nine golf shots later, Tiger had his best first-round score at a US Open since his 67 at the 2002 Bethpage Black US Open. He won that US Open.

The question: Who kidnapped the Tiger Woods who hasn't won a Major in four calendar years, and replaced him with Tiger Woods?

Don't think the field didn't notice. Bubba Watson, whose first-round 78 smacked of surrender to Olympic's beastly demands, sure did.

"That was the old Tiger," he said, in gifting the media with Thursday's mission statement. "That was beautiful to watch."

So did Phil Mickelson, the other part of the underwhelming "Big Three" pairing. After Lefty's pained 76, and after speaking of his desire to simply make the weekend at this point, he was asked about Tiger's scorecard, which trumped him by seven strokes.

"He's playing really well," said Mickelson, the idea of his Pebble Beach romp over Woods in February somewhere far off in the distant memory banks. "He had solid control of his ball flight, and trajectory. It was impressive."

Yes, 54 holes of wind and canted fairways and small greens and firm conditions await. Yes, veteran, steady, US Open-styled players such as David Toms and Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk are off to fine starts, and have the air of players intent on contending all weekend. And, yes, Tiger 2.0, post-career humiliation, has yet to stitch four championship rounds at a Major. But to ignore the many bright neon signs of goodness in Tiger's game Thursday is to ignore the story of the day.

Mostly, what emerged on Day 1 of America's national golf championship was what the old, 14-time Major champion Tiger used to love most: a golf course's arduous requests meshing with his maniacally focused approach.

Olympic Club is one of those places where Tiger Woods, in another incarnation, would not thrive. He used to be Tiger the Bomber when he was younger, not able to control his driver, not able to win at tight, tree-lined tracks. Tiger is older now, wiser at 36. And after masterful performances like the irons-off-the-tee Open at Liverpool in 2006, he is capable of meeting Olympic on its own terms.

If that means hitting only three drivers all day – on Nos. 9, 10 and 16 – so be it. He used iron off the tee repeatedly, and hit 10 of 14 fairways, 11 of 18 greens. If that means understanding that lag putting is the key because Olympic's firm greens deny tight approaches, so be it. He lag putted masterfully, and made only two bogeys. If that means mentally meeting Olympic's test, accepting the grind and not wishing for birdie holes or eagle holes, all the better. When Tiger Woods is healthy, mentally and physically, he'll take on anybody in the field when it comes to patience and work.

"There's no let up," Woods said of Olympic. "There's not one single hole where it's a breather … It's so demanding, you've got to really grind."

For Tiger, to "grind" is almost holy. If Hank Haney's book, "The Big Miss," reaffirmed anything, it was Tiger's passion for labour. When others wilt, or get tired, Tiger seeks a second wind. When others succumb to temptation and try to bomb driver – as Bubba did repeatedly Thursday – Tiger lays back, ever the tortoise to the field's hare. This player who once was defined by his length off the tee can play rope-a-dope golf, too.

Of course, none of this is applicable if Tiger's swing plane is off, if his ever-changing golf swing is one of its famous transition phases. That seemed to be the case at the Masters in April, en route to his tie-40th, or at Quail Hollow, where he missed the cut. And when Tiger told us repeatedly that he was hitting it "better" and was "close," our choices were to roll our eyes and wonder about his powers of delusion, or to believe him, and to wait for glory.

Most of us opted for the former. Others, as vindicated by a win in his last start at the Memorial, and a flop shot for the ages down the stretch, believed in the latter. Tiger's ball control Thursday at Olympic affirmed their positive thoughts.

"I know I can hit the ball this way, and I know I have been hitting the ball this way," Tiger said, for seemingly the umpteenth time, but this time with weight of evidence.

As he said it, a red "1" hung on the manual scoreboards next to the name "WOODS" all over Olympic's gorgeous landscape. It symbolized his 1-under par score, and for most of the day was one of only three red numbers after 18 holes, next to leader Michael Thompson and Toms. Every player in the field saw it, and knew that this Major championship suddenly had its dominant theme.

The calm before the 'once in 50 years' storm: Forecasters predict major flooding as huge low sweeps in from the Atlantic - Daily Mail
  • Emergency services issue a 'major flood' alert in the South-West and Wales as Atlantic front sweeps in
  • After a dry spell yesterday and today, downpours and gusts are set to return with a vengeance tonight
  • Environment Agency issues two warnings where flooding was expected and 12 where possible today
  • Temperatures up to 10C below normal and sunshine down 60 per cent in worst June since records began

Batten down the hatches. Another storm threatens to wreak havoc across the country.

Nearly two inches of rain – more than half the average for the entire month – is expected to fall today and tomorrow.

The latest deluge could lead to further flooding across large parts of the country after recent heavy downpours, forecasters warn. And that’s not all. Strong winds of up to 60mph are also expected to cause chaos.

The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings – the second-highest level of alert – for the South East and East Anglia and announced a further 12 flood alerts in other areas.

It said its specialist teams would closely monitor river levels and use  pumping equipment in the worst-affected areas. The warnings cover 32,500 properties.

This latest storm comes just days after more than three inches, or 80mm, fell in just 24 hours and left homes and roads flooded.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: ‘The heavy rainfall is expected to spread into central and north eastern England on Friday, with heavy showers to follow throughout the day and into Saturday.

'The public should remain vigilant and stay away from swollen rivers and not drive through floodwater.’

The strong winds and heavy rain form part of a bout of low pressure building up over the Atlantic which is set to hit the South West first before spreading across the country.

Met Office forecaster Dan Williams said: ‘Over the next 48-hour period we could see up to 40mm (1.5in) of rain in those areas. Across high ground, particularly Snowdonia, we could possibly see 80mm (3in).

‘There’s been a lot of rain over southern England and Wales over the past week or so and the ground is pretty saturated, so that’s obviously going to be a factor when we get further rain. It could cause quite a few problems.’

He added: ‘This area of low pressure is moving in from the South West, bringing with it heavy and persistent rain and strong winds. We could get gusts of up to 60mph.’

Weather Channel forecaster Leon Brown said: 'There’s a 50 per cent possibility of extreme downpours seeing over 80mm of rain in 12 hours in south and east Wales, which is a once-in-50 years event.

'The greatest intensity of rain will be early Thursday night and again on Friday daytime. Overall, up to 110mm is expected in Wales in just over 48 hours to midnight Saturday.

'This rainfall will be widespread across river catchment areas and could completely overwhelm rivers downstream. There is a high risk of flooding, with situation made even worse by ground being saturated from previous rain this week.'

MeteoGroup forecaster Julian Mayes said: 'We cannot find a period of June weather worse than this month since records began. For a 12-day period, it’s as bad as it can be.

'There’s no parallel with this month’s combination of very high rainfall, very low sunshine and very low daytime temperatures.

'The outlook is unsettled and although we don’t yet know for sure if it will be the wettest June, it’s well on the way.'

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said its 650 firefighters and 100 support staff were ready to take flood action.

A spokesman said: 'Ourselves, the police and county council are monitoring the weather forecast and will take appropriate action when needed. We have vast experience dealing with flooding, in particular floods which devastated Cornwall in November 2010.'

When 80mm of rain fell in 24 hours in west Wales last Friday, 150 people were rescued and 850 relocated as 5ft floods swept through caravan parks and villages.

Government forecasters predicted 15-20mm of rain today, plus 70-100mm over higher ground in 48 hours from midnight, with 30-50mm on lower ground.

The Weather Channel forecast more than 100mm on higher ground and warned of a 'major flooding event.' Rivers running off higher ground will fill rapidly.

The Met Office forecast wind gusts to hit a gale-force of 55mph-60mph on coasts in the South-West tomorrow.

Other parts of the UK will escape the worst of the conditions, with up to an inch of rain across tomorrow and Saturday, with 35-40mph gusts, the Met Office said.

The storm will peter out by tomorrow night, to be followed by sunshine and showers on Sunday.

The Met Office said it was too early to say whether this month was on course to be the wettest June on record, beating the 2007 figure of 136.2mm. The average June rainfall is 72.6mm.

Despite the torrential conditions, the Met Office said the UK was still below its average rainfall for the year. Between January and May, 392.5mm of rain fell across the country, compared with an average of 439mm.

Nevertheless, temperatures have been miserable for many. Forest Row, East Sussex, only reached 10.7C on Tuesday, almost 10C below normal for June.

Sunshine is down 60 per cent so far this month, with England and Wales averaging just 30 hours’ sunshine. June normally sees 178 hours’ sunshine.

Although there have been heavy showers in parts of the South West, Wales and the North West, parts of the country which were on flood alert after days of heavy rain were given breathing space this week with clear skies in the South East and London.

The break in the weather came as three of the UK’s biggest water companies announced they would lift hosepipe bans, imposed to deal with drought, following weeks of heavy rain.

Thames Water, Anglian Water and Southern Water were to remove the restrictions in place since early April from yesterday.

Seven water companies across southern and eastern England brought in hosepipe bans after two unusually dry winters left some groundwater supplies and rivers as low as in the drought year of 1976.

The Environment Agency had urged people in Devon, Cornwall, west Somerset, North Wales and parts of the Midlands to remain prepared for the possibility of floods as the Met Office issued a weather warning for heavy rain.

At one point yesterday the agency had five flood warnings in place for rivers where flooding was expected, and 21 less serious flood alerts.

There were also 17 flood alerts, mainly in East Anglia and the South East.

Today, that had been downgraded to two warnings where flooding was expected and 12 where it was possible over the next 12 hours.

Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and council officers said they evacuated people from flooded homes in the village of Elmer, near Bognor Regis, after reports of flooding of up to 6ft in some homes.

Inflatable boats were used to reach 250 vulnerable homes, knocking on doors and searching properties to make sure people were safe and received the help they needed, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

MeteoGroup said that the highest rainfall had been at Culdrose in Cornwall, where 16mm fell, with 13mm in Nantwich, Cheshire.

I honestly do not understand why people who live elsewhere come on these sites to crow about how great it is where they live. If it was that great why are they reading this?????? Also those who don't like it here are quite free to go and live elsewhere, or am I missing something? Our Weather is the most interesting in the World, it's rare to have more than two weeks of the same type of Weather, plus the position we are in makes it very hard to forecast any Weather at all.
